About Sun Valley Opera
Since its founding as a non-profit arts organization in 2001, the mission of the Sun Valley Opera is to entertain, enrich and educate through opera and the vocal arts.
Our three visionary founders, Floyd McCracken, Frank Meyer and Marsha Ingham, realizing that the residents of the Wood River Valley and surrounding areas had no practical access to Opera without having to travel long distances, sought to attract classically trained voices and operatic performances to Sun Valley. Today, the Sun Valley Opera has grown to the extent that it produces a four day Winter Festival, a Summer Benefit Concert in the Sun Valley Pavilion, and offers an up close and personal experience with our artists at our renowned Diva Parties and at our Signature Salon Series. Audience and donor support have grown along with us, and our performances continue to receive outstanding reviews.
An Executive Director was hired in 2009 to help with the continued growth of our organization and to assist our Music Director and President in booking world-class talent for our events.
As a key part of our educational outreach, we partnered with Metropolitan Theaters in 2010 to bring the Metropolitan Opera HD Live satellite broadcasts from New York to our community. We also continue to provide entertaining and informative lectures to broaden our audience’s appreciation of the art form and offer free tickets to select performances for students and music teachers throughout the Wood River Valley.
